STOP SHARK FINNING, Demand an End to Shark Fin Soup, #SharkWeek #CherishTheShark Week Blog Eventby EJ on 08/09/13
Shark finning is a huge reason why shark populations are on the decline. Sharks fins are often removed while they are still alive and then their bodies are thrown back into the water, helpless against suffocation and suffering.
According to StopSharkFinning, com, "Sharks are being driven to the brink of extinction due to a huge increase in demand for their fins over the last 20 years or so. If you are concerned about this, there are many ways you can help to spread the message about the plight of sharks and encourage others not to consume shark fin soup (or any other shark products)." Shark fin soup sells for around $100 bucks per bowl. Sharks attack humans about 3 times a year. Three sharks are killed EVERY SECOND by humans.
1. "Friends don't let friends eat shark fin soup" (StopSharkFinning.com). If you live near a restaurant that serves it, talk to the owner about why you think they should stop.
2. Financially support an organization that protects marine wildlife.
3. Use your social networking platforms to spread the information. Many people are simply just unaware of this issue.
Thank you to EVERYONE who participated in Four Little Monsters #SharkWeek #CherishTheShark Blog Event this week. To end Shark Week, please support sharks by demanding an end to shark finning.
