Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives, TV Show, Discovery, #CherishTheShark #SharkWeek Reviewby EJ on 08/05/13
Here's what my oldest had to say after viewing Megalodon: The Monster Shark Lives on Discovery last night: "It looked a little fake - like the whale, that was torn apart. But the World War II photo looked real. I liked the giant whale decoy. I hoped it would attract a Megalodon... but I don't think it's real. But it might be... It was really exciting to watch anyway. I already knew all that stuff about Megalodon so I didn't learn anything new."
There you have it. My prehistoric mammal and undersea life expert, at 8 years old, didn't learn anything new last night and didn't buy the alleged "evidence" either. What's your take on the show? What about your kids?
I myself was a bit disappointed. I do get the whole theory of Megalodon being able to exist except that I don't believe for a second that a creature that freaking huge would go unnoticed all this time. Even with a Megalodon tooth carbon dating back only 10,000 when scientists have the creature going extinct about 1.5 million years ago, there's just NO way even a single sighting would escape any kind of attention whatsoever. I'm still sore after Animal Planet tried to push me and the rest of the world over with Mermaids: A Body Found several months back. Megalodon was certainly riveting and it's a neat theory but not something I am prepared to believe. Nope, not at all.
And hey Discovery Channel! Maybe, if you're going to spend a pile of cash on a fake Humpback Whale decoy and a few miles of chum in the water, maybe spend a ton of cash on a giant shark cage as well - because if you think for even half a moment that I believe you're going to stick two of your scientists in the water in a normal sized shark cage against a 100 ft. shark, then think again.
What do you have for us tonight, Discovery? It's Return of Jaws and Voodoo Sharks, which airs at 9 p.m. ET. Hashtag #ReturnofJaws and #VoodooSharks during the shows to get a chance to see your tweets on TV!
