Magnets On the Cheap, Car Advertising Magnet Review

by EJ on 07/10/12

In addition to Mom blogging, I'm a business owner. My company designs and paints custom kids' room decor like alphabet wall letters, wall art and small furniture. I started out as a muralist while I was a student at Penn State, to help cover the leftover college costs that Mom, Dad, scholarships and grants couldn't. I worked locally at first and then over the first two years I transitioned over to creating custom room decor, so I could work from home and take care of my infant, KM. In the time the company has grown, I've shipped my custom wall letters and custom kids room products to most of the fifty states as well as to Canada and several other countries overseas. Every year things grow a bit more.

This year I'll be focusing on building a local presence in addition to my countrywide customer base. Since we no longer live in Pennsylvania, there's a lot of work to do here in a new state. Coincidentally, MagnetsOntheCheap.com contacted me to review their products and I knew that simple car magnets advertising my products were a wonderful next step in the local advertising process.

Magnets On the Cheap asked me to visit their website and design my own set of car magnets. Right from the main page, navigation was a cinch. While browsing that first page, I especially loved that I could view the magnet sizes (which range from 9'' by 12'', to 12'' by 18'', to 12'' by 24'' inches) on three different types of vehicles. You can check a box for what size you want, then also for what vehicle (car, truck or van) and get a pretty good idea of how the magnet sizes up to that kind of vehicle. I decided that two 12'' by 18'' car magnets would work very well on my van.

Once I specified the sizing details, I clicked the Start Designing Now! button and was asked whether I wanted to customize from a professionally designed template, start my own design from scratch or upload a full design onto the magnet. I knew I already had a logo and font to upload but I checked out the templates to see what was available. The choices were vast and included everything from contractor templates to political ad templates.

For my custom car magnet, I started from scratch and uploaded my flying paint brush and custom font, website, etc. Of course, my final design looked nothing like what I started with since I always clear any advertising designs with my hubby. He moved around the text, suggested I add a bit more color (see the blue and white polka dot divider line) and then walla, we were both happy campers. I submitted the order and with express shipping, I received my set of car magnets within the week.

The van has been wearing these car magnets for a good week and a half now and I'm very happy with them. The colors are exactly on target with my website, bright and vibrant. The colors that we uploaded are the exact colors that we received. The car magnets are a nice weight and so far we haven't had any issue with them coming off the van.

I work from home and with the dramatic heat wave over the past week, I can't say I've gotten out enough to make an impression on too many people yet. However, Hubby did manage to sneak our van into the 4th of July parade procession which was absolutely amazing while it lasted as my magnets seemed to attract the attention of everyone on the sidewalks! I even saw someone mouth "The Fairy Paintbox" which made me absolutely giddy. It was really cool to see everyone looking right at the magnets and reading them. I told Hubby that we'd have to design a small float next year using his trailer and enter the parade honestly.

While Magnets On the Cheap advertizes that their prices are very low compared to competition, I can tell you that the quality is very good based on the samples that I received. All magnets are printed digitally with UV curable inks which is both durable and long lasting.

Magnets On the Cheap has two sister sites called Signs on the Cheap and Banners on the Cheap which offer all kinds of cheap signs and banners. The sites are set up almost identical to Magnets and are equally easy to maneauver.

Four Little Monsters Blog received two 12'' by 18'' inch, 30 mil car magnets for the purpose of this review. All opinions belong to the blogger.
