Les Miserables at The Academy of Music Jan. 2nd - 13th
by EJ on 01/02/13Don't miss your chance to see a the world's longest running and most legendary musical, Les Miserables, playing tonight through January 13th at The Academy of Music. Cameron Mackintosh presents this brand new anniversary production of Boublil & Schönberg's masterpiece operata, set during the French Revolution in 19th century France. The New York Times calls this Les Misérables 'an unquestionably spectacular production from start to finish.' The London Times hails the new show 'a five star hit, astonishingly powerful.' Les Miserables has been seen by 60 million people in 42 countries.
I first discovered Les Miserables at age fifteen through my mother when she bought me the soundtrack (accompanied by Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar). I sang my heart out to songs like "I Dreamed A Dream" in my room, imagined myself on the stage, etc. The lyrics and the power of the music moved me back then and always have.
These days my oldest daughter is starting early with Les Mis at age 8. The other night I found her teaching her grandfather about the French Revolution and explaining her favorite scenes from the Les Mis concert at the O2 that we watch constantly. She even pulled up her favorite songs on YouTube. What a proud moment!
