Diamond Candles, Soy Candles with Hidden Ring, Review

by EJ on 09/06/12

When I discovered Diamond Candles, I felt pretty excited about the whole buried treasure concept of finding a glorious ring worth $10 to $5000 deep inside the candle. Yes, I'll admit it. Before I even received my first Diamond Candle, I applauded this company for coming up with such a great idea. They had me hooked. Seriously, why hadn't I seen this before? Why didn't I think of this first? What a fun gift idea! Right? Even my monsters were excited when our Cupcake scented Diamond Candle arrived on our doorstep. They couldn't wait to start melting away that soy wax to find that magic ring!

Upon further inspection, I found that I was excited about more than just discovering the hidden ring. First of all, this soy candle was huge. For $24.95, which seemed like a steep price to pay for a candle at first, the buyer receives a 3.5 diameter, 3 lb., seven inch tall candle in a thick glass jar. The jar was no joke, either. This candle jar would easily double as a sturdy drinking glass once the wax was all gone and cleaned.

Second, the candle is made of 100% soy wax which burns cleaner than typical petroleum based parrafin wax candles. There are tons of benefits to going soy when it comes to candles. There are no harsh chemicals emitted. Plus, soy beans are grown right here in the United States of America and buying soy candles helps the American farmer. While soy candles might be expensive, they also burn much slower than parrafin which means they last longer for the price.

The monsters and I all gathered around our Cupcake candle as I lit the wick for the first time around 10 a.m.. We immediately took in the delicious scent. The kitchen smelled like we'd been baking! I loved that the scent carried throughout the house, without overwhelming us.

The soy wax burned very, very slowly and the kids were a bit confused that we would have to wait to find the ring. I explained that the waiting was what made this particular adventure exciting. So we all went about our business that day and the kids and I would come back and check on the status of candle througout the day. The candle burned burned down about two inches between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. when the foil pouch hiding our ring finally appeared. Even with the foil pouch peaking out from the wax, there was still plenty of candle left for the future.

I couldn't locate any tweezers as suggested, so I used a screwdriver to dig out the foil pouch instead. I let everything cool, then pulled apart the foil so that we all could see the ring. The kids were pretty impressed and both girls wanted to try it on immediately. As luck would have it, we weren't gifted with a $5,000 ring but the excitement of it all was worth while. Regardless, our ring was very pretty.

When I visited the Diamond Candles facebook page, I saw that there were literally a gazillion different rings out there. Diamond Candles encourages customers to post their photos so it was pretty neat to see the variety of rings discovered by others. There were photos of ladies' hands adorned with two or three rings at a time, so obviously, this whole ring in the candle concept caught on quiet well. Diamond Candles is also on Twitter. Anyone who follows Diamond Candles on facebook will have access to candle giveaways! If you do follow or like as a result of this review, please let Diamond Candles know that Four Little Monsters Blog sent you!

I highly recommend Diamond Candles to anyone looking for a unique gift. The soy candle and scent was excellent alone, finding the hidden ring was just plain fun.
Many thanks to Diamond Candles! Diamond Candles provided one candle for the purpose of this review. All opinions belong to the blogger.
